Fuji Rebrand Project
Photography is drawing with light.
The concept behind the Fuji logo
re-design is a camera obscura. Light from an external scene passes through the hole and strikes the surface inside, reproducing an upside down image. These semi-fictional exhibition posters were created using the Photographer Abelardo Morell's work.

The Color of Money
Title Sequence Design
Created in collaboration with
Zach Eastburg & Junhee Sim
Role: concept development, storyboard, styleframes, design, & animation
Instructor: Miguel Lee
Music: Ocean's Thirteen Soundtrack
For our title sequence redesign for "The Color of Money," we abstracted themes and elements from the film into simple, graphic shapes. The film follows the journey of several pool sharks
they hustle their way across the country. To mirror their struggle, our sequence follows the journey of a cue ball as it descends into the metaphorical abyss of a pool table, where it's consumed by a world of complex tunnels and mazes. As the music propels the ball forward, we journey deeper and deeper into this chaotic labyrinth until the inevitable final climax— the ball’s exit and our entrance into the real world of the film.
Hand-drawn typography + Illustration
Background and prop design for the movie, Guys and Dolls.
Instructor: Paul Rogers
This project emphasizes historical graphic influences using a modern world point of view. Inspired by the movie Guys and Dolls, I created illustrations that include environmental graphic design, signage, and hand-drawn typography. The street scenes include classic buildings around New York’s Time Square in the 1950's, such as Mindy's Restaurant, Hot Box Nightclub, and Sav-A-Soul Mission. The poster for Miss Adelaide's dance show at Hot Box Nightclub plays an important role in the movie.
Motion: Styleframe design for Pandora Internet Radio
The concept behind the styleframe design is a personalization of Pandora Radio that highlights the convenient portability and individualization of the service through a graphical metaphor of specific and different songbirds sitting atop various individuals’ shoulders.
Photography Is: ______________
The word "photography" was created from the Greek roots φωτός (phōtos), genitive of φῶς (phōs), "light" and γραφή (graphé) "representation by means of lines" or "drawing", together meaning "drawing with light".
This is a combination of Processing, projection, graphic design, motion editing and three-dimensional installation. Inspired by the concept of traditional photography, I created an interactive installation that allows users to interact with their own reflection, and by swing the light source in hand, the imagery slowly changes and make the experience similar as in the dark room of revealing traditional film. According to users' movements, imagery slowly go through dodge and burn process, and all the collaborative quotes "Photography is:" I gathered from people appear.

Concept: This stop motion piece is about anxiety, anger, and love. Moreover, it’s a personal reflection of how I believe relationships define how you come to understand yourself. Everyone’s a student of love
—learning how to love and to be loved.
Identity System Design: Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival
The various colors of the rectangle shapes for the Los Angeles Asian Pacific Film Festival logo represent an array of cultures that are both diverse and unified together. The project mandated a rebrand highlighting a complex cultural identity using the visual space of typography across multiple platforms.
Pasadena Indie Music Festival
Fictional rebranding of the Pasadena Indie Music Festival based on concepts of expression, saturation, and un-refinement using a hand-drawn style that I was inspired by indie music. Through this exercise, I focused my feelings on indie music and created illustrations that could be used in various modes: posters, brochures, products, billboards, and other environmental graphics.

Styleframes Design: IKEA
Created in collaboration with Maria An
Role: Research, Design
This is a pitch book for IKEA detailing a concept for a 30-second brand commercial. We wanted to emphasize the idea that your home is a personal sanctuary that cultivates who you are. Ikea believes good design isn't just for the privileged but for everyone. Our idea is to use IKEA packaging as a structure that reveals the diversity of individual rooms that provides families spaces of comfort.
Motion: My Journey
This is a self-portrait piece using three abstract shapes to represent three of my different life stages: past, current, and future. I was an angry child who always felt anxious and had nervous emotions. Having finally come to terms with some difficulties in my life— a robbery at gunpoint and a serious car accident— I now feel that I have changed. This is where the real journey begins. The third scene represents my future self—the version of me that’s been dropped into a big environment, slowly become less rigid and more round, and is now better able to fit
Movie Poster Design
Movie poster design for "Cabaret".
I romanticized two of the most essential elements from the movie—the main character's beautiful eyes and sexy beauty mark. I incorporated these icons into the actual typeface, Lubalin, to create the type-based poster.
This animated piece is designed to take on the style, characteristics, and tone of David Carson and to reinterpret the literary passage “The Current” by Raymond Carver.
Raymond Carver - “The Current”
These fish have no eyes
these silver fish that come to me in dreams, scattering their roe and milt
in the pockets of my brain.
But there’s one that comes--
heavy, scarred, silent like the rest,
that simply holds against the current,
closing its dark mouth against
the current, closing and opening
as it holds to the current.

Interactive/ Brand Strategy: ACCD Sponsor Project with Quiksilver
Created in collaboration with Seth Astle, Erik Berg, & Della Tosin

The final touch points cross over social media, product design, advertisement, and interactive user experience. We created a video to show as our final presentation that included live action video, compositing, and interactive design.
The concept video shows all the touch points of our rebranding for Quiksilver. By using technology and social media, we made it easier to approach our target consumers and improved Quiksilver’s brand recognition.
